In these two chapters, we come upon 2 new important characters which are Elrond and the Great Goblin. Elrond is met in chapter 3 when the group reaches the city of Rivendell. He is the chief of the elves who is said to have a very kind, strong, and wise personality. The Great Goblin is met in chapter 4 after the goblins tie them up. Unlike Elrond, the Great Goblin seems much more of a bossy and arrogant character. By reading these two chapters, the reader can assume that this book will end up being filled with many adventures with possibly new characters being mentioned every chapter.
In chapter 3, the group visits a city of elves. When they arrive there they are greeted by a group of elves that welcome them and meet the chief elf, Elrond, helps them by translating odd markings that are printed on their weapons and on Thornton’s map of the mountains they are headed to. Thanks to Elrond, they are well prepared for their journey to the mountains.
In chapter 4, the group reaches the mountains and can easily find a good path because of Elrond's help. Otherwise, it is easy to get lost with many dead ends on the trail. Although the group has an ideal sense of direction of where they are going, a thunder storm comes in and ruins it all. Fortunately, they find a cave to stay in for shelter and decide to bring in the ponies and stay there until the next day. While everyone is sleeping, goblins appear out of a crack in the cave, smuggle the ponies, tie everyone up, and take them to the Great Goblin. When they arrive, the Great Goblin is hungry and lunges towards Thornton to eat him. When he does, the sparks of the fire hit the Great Goblin, the room gets dark and a sword strikes at him. After this, the dwarfs are chased by the goblins and Bilbo falls and loses conscience.

ch1&2
In chapter 1, Tolkien explains that a hobbit is like a human but alot smaller, probably half the size, and are very hairy. Most hobbits live underground with windows on only one side of their house. Although living underground sounds quiet uncomfortable, their homes were actually quiet relaxing.
The main character in "The Hobbit" is Bilbo. When the book begins, he is outside his house taking a smoke when a wizzard named Gandolf shows up. The wizzard asks Bilbo if he wants to go on an adventure. He says no but offers him to come over to drink tea if he ever wants to. The next day, the door bell rings. Obviously, he asumes it would be Gandolf but instead its a dwarf who comes in his house to eat. Progressively, dwarfs show up every few minutes and when about 15 dwarfs are in Bilbo's home, Gandolf shows up and finally convinces Bilbo to go on the adventure which all the other dwarfs go on as well.
In chapter 2, Bilbo is eating breakfast the next day when Gandolf barges right in and disrupts telling him he needs to go to an inn where the other dwarfs are waiting for him to start the journey. By the start of dusk after they head off for there trip, it starts to rain and they decide to camp out. Afterwords, they see a fire in the distance along with 3 trolls. Bilbo tries to snatch one of their purses but doesn't get away with it. After this the trolls get in a big fight and the three trolls tie all of them up except for Bilbo.

The Hobbit (intro)
I think this book is going to be interesting. Judging by the cover, it looks like its not modern day but rather in the past around medival times. It looks like its probably about wizards, dragons, fairies etc. I don't know much about Lord of the Rings so I don't really know what the book is about.
